Hello, I’m looking to purchase GTA 5 but noticed many negative Steam reviews about online hacking. I wasn’t expecting the game to be completely safe, so I wondered if these reports are accurate. Even if a race search shows some hackers, would that really matter? I’d rather buy the DVD for 15 euros instead of risking online issues. Any chance there are many hackers in GTA 5 online?

It seems there aren't many individuals known for their hacking skills.

First of all, they aren't hackers—they're cheaters. I'd get the DVD because you have a physical disc (and it's cheaper).

The download version typically offers immediate access to the content without physical media, while the DVD version includes a tangible copy for offline viewing and sometimes additional features.

Hackers aren't the main players, or they happen very seldom. (Safe hacking, no restart, big explosions) But many modders are involved—using money, cars, and skins to break things.

Steam key works better for playing with friends since it lets me quickly add them, just like in GTA IV. It’s much easier than inviting friends on the GFWL Disc when I had the Steam version.

There are quite a few players using shortcuts. I might encounter one or two each day, but generally the ones I meet are friendly and don’t rely on cheats to ruin my experience. They usually just create extra money for everyone or introduce strange vehicles and magical transportation. I believe they enhance the game when they’re not disruptive. GTA isn’t about competition, and I enjoy playing with friends online. Taking a magical bus ride and firing rail guns at aliens is something I’d love to try with my crew. All in all, dodging hackers is simple if you’re willing to switch servers.
