I own a 32GB drive, but real use comes mainly for editing photos. I shoot Nikon D850 and my RAW files are huge—photo editing drains RAM quickly. On normal days with many open tabs, games, Discord, etc., staying under 12GB is manageable. That’s about 50+ chrome windows or apps running. 16GB should be fine for me. If you think upgrading makes sense because you’ll share your old files, that’s a good idea too.

They really should have it if they’re missing it, I think. Still unsure about DDR3/4 or what people use. Eight gigabytes feels like being trapped with Windows 10, I guess.

Funny thing is, when I open about 60 tabs and launch a game, I quickly hit the 16GB limit. On Windows 10, 8GB works fine, but it varies depending on how you run things. Just because you use less doesn’t mean others will too. Don’t base expectations on your own habits.

It seems a modest 8GB could suffice for light tasks, though even with powerful systems like ours running Tanium, 12GB is necessary to avoid frequent reliance on virtual memory.

Many believe you don't require 32GB, which is accurate for your current needs. However, if you plan to use the machine for several years, I’d consider upgrading. It’s clear that as time goes on, more RAM becomes necessary to handle tasks. If it weren’t for this trend, we could still run with just 8GB or even 4GB today—something that was standard ten years ago but isn’t the case now. I’d only upgrade if the machine is passed on to someone else, since it’s not essential. In reality, 16GB should suffice these days.

Same situation here. In games, my 12GB RAM worked just fine, but now that I’m diving into making and blending music, I require 32GB.

My uncle mostly uses most of his RAM, and the same goes for my brother. I checked their PCs to see if they really needed it, because I’m not just going to give them extra memory for free. I’d only help if they actually needed it, not if they wanted it.
