I discovered a very affordable 9800X3D recently and purchased it for about 350€ today (brand new packaging, still sealed). My current 7800X3D is still in my PC, and I'm weighing which one to retain. If I sell the 7800X3D, I'd earn roughly 300€. I use a 32' 4K OLED display for gaming. My system features a 5070 Ti GPU, 2x16GB 6000MHz DDR5 RAM, and a Cl30 motherboard. I mostly play OSRS solo, while friends enjoy The Finals, Borderlands 4, Rocket League, Apex Legends, and League of Legends.

I would purchase the 9800x3D, then sell the 7800x3D. That way, my 9800x3D would be nearly free.

It was my idea to switch from 7800x3d to 9800x3d for under $50. That would be great. However, if my GPU is already limited, I could just swap to 9800x3d for a cheaper option.

For me, I’d go for that 15% performance increase with the 9800x3d. However, I’m someone who consistently clears out those threads regularly. You might want to flip the chip and keep the 100-150 profit.

If the results truly matter, I’ll hold onto it since I’m someone who appreciates a strong PC. I might switch things up later to cover the gap.

I’m thinking about selling my 7800x3D even though the price is still decent, and I ended up getting a more affordable alternative. But the decision is yours.

I’d go with the 9800x3d version. Keep the 7800x3d handy—prices are likely to rise soon. View it as a smart move before you decide to sell.
