Sorry guys, I changed things up mainly because someone bought my motherboard, CPU, and block for £1150. That gave me the funds to swap my motherboard with Crosshair VIII Dark Hero and 5950x without cost. The only expense was the AMD Foundation block for Optimus water cooling.
I don't believe the cost justifies it. Moving to a Ryzen 9 5950x won't offer much benefit... Your existing CPU should handle most tasks. You might consider PCIe Gen 4 if that interests you. Otherwise, it doesn't seem worthwhile right now. Just hold off until DDR5 becomes common, as this timing isn't ideal for building a PC. Both Intel and AMD are likely planning upgrades to DDR5, which will make now a poor moment.
But I didn't have to spend anything for the upgrade, right? It's usually a tough time to change. The 600W Intel CPU with 220 single cores and 5000 multi threads, when heavily overclocked, beats the 280W AMD chip with 280 single cores and 5700 multi threads. Upgrading is always easier when it's free.
