It was nice that I didn’t make any changes or skip updating Puush.

I believe we really need some reinforcement here or suggest using software in general. It seems this question is asked excessively. This thread should remain a sticky, but it’s important to review it for mistakes beforehand. On the other hand: for free antivirus protection, opt for Avira or Bitdefender. Bitdefender is lighter on resources yet offers fewer customization options. If you prefer something paid, consider Bitdefender or Kaspersky. I’d likely choose Kaspersky because their team has uncovered many security vulnerabilities in the past. You might also explore AVTEST, an independent organization that evaluates antivirus solutions (Bitdefender and Kaspersky rank first). Avoid Avast!—it’s not reliable. Check out this link to understand why. Also, consider running Malwarebytes weekly or as often as you’re comfortable with, but treat it as a scanner only. Don’t accept the trial version and turn it off at startup.
I've been telling this for a long time. Those who think you need to be smart to use your computer are wrong. Unless you're doing any tech work, I'd suggest Kaspersky or Bitdefender—probably at a good price if you look. Sure, there might be better options somewhere.
