Hello, I currently own an ISP-provided router (Huawei E5186s-22a) and have always experienced poor internet. From what I know, I live near a cell tower, which has likely affected performance. Previously, my download speeds were only 1-2MB/s, sufficient for basic YouTube but limiting online gaming and downloads. After moving the router about 1.5 meters above ground in the middle of my window, I noticed speeds of 3-6MB/s occasionally, though still capped around 1-3MB/s during the day. My ping fluctuates a lot—sometimes as low as 40ms, other times reaching 600-2000+ms when my parent’s laptop connects.

On the topic of upgrading, I’m considering the Tp-Link Archer C80, which is on sale locally. I believe its specifications suggest it could offer significantly faster speeds than my current router. The new model includes antennas, unlike my old one. Could using an Ethernet cable instead provide better connectivity? Also, I’ve noticed Huawei routers seem more expensive than TP-Link ones—does that indicate a price difference or something else?

In short: Is the Tp-Link Archer C80 worth it compared to my ISP’s device? Have you heard about ISPs imposing restrictions on their routers? If it does offer better performance, is it worth the investment? The price has dropped from 75 to 60 euros. Here are some links I checked:
