Consider your needs and preferences when deciding between Windows and Linux.
I mainly rely on Linux for everyday tasks, except when playing games. For gaming, Windows offers a smoother experience. You can still play games on Linux if they support it, but most titles are only tested and developed there, which means fewer issues—especially if you're new to Linux. ~Note: I have both operating systems installed (dual boot), so this isn't a strict choice.
Others may think I’m outdated, but I still prefer Windows 7. It remains useful yet much simpler than the newer versions. As long as your motherboard has USB 3 ports, you should be able to set it up easily—I’ve only encountered one device that doesn’t work with it (a trackpad on a laptop).
I’d suggest Linux only if you’re willing to invest significant time and patience to configure it precisely as desired. It’s powerful, but far less intuitive and approachable compared to macOS and Windows. As someone in Computing Science, I still steer clear of Linux for everyday work. It doesn’t fit my needs as a typical user.
I might do the dual boot option. Is there a specific level of specs preferred or it doesn't matter?
