You're considering upgrading to a newer Windows version for your SSD installation. Right now, you're using Windows 7 64-bit and it's working fine. Decide whether to switch to Windows 8.1 64-bit or keep Windows 7 until Windows 10 is available.

Release 7 to 10 comes out, then just upgrade it—no need to buy Windows 8 for a short time.

yep, what Enderman said, just a little longer and you'll be able to get win 10 for free.

If you already have 7 then keep using it. No point in switching/upgrading to Windows 8 as both will be updated to Windows 10 anyways.

You can keep using version 7 as long as the 10 release isn't available, it offers you a free upgrade.

Align with the suggestions provided. If needed, I can adjust to version 8.1 or higher.

I purchased an 8.1 key at a lower price, so I didn’t need to upgrade my Windows 7 key. I aim for the best compatibility with Windows 10, and I don’t want to abandon Windows 7. If you can find an 8.1 key cheaply, I’d like to upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 7 will remain useful for a while longer.

I didn’t plan to purchase it. A friend is offering it as a gift because he received some from work.

Please secure a copy of version 7 or 8 at no cost or low price, and keep it handy until version 10 is released. If you plan to move to version 10, it doesn't matter what you install right now—just ensure it's either 7 or 8 to qualify for the free upgrade.
