A few months ago I was planning to upgrade my 3700x to a 5800x at Best Buy, but an employee quoted the 5800X3D for $225. In Michigan, if a product’s listed price doesn’t match what it actually costs, they have to sell it for more. That caught my attention, so I went ahead and bought it. I’ve been using it nonstop since then. It’s extremely fast and works well with my 2080 Super and 64GB RAM. I never considered the manufacturing side before. Recently I started rendering videos in After Effects and Premiere Pro. The 3700x handles them smoothly, but Premiere barely runs at low settings, and even a short 45-second video in 1080p took over an hour on this model. Rendering a 45-second clip in 1080p took 40 minutes—way longer than the 4K version, which only took about 2 hours. I don’t have the budget for an AM5 upgrade yet, but the specs are similar to the 3700x except for the processor. Everything else on my system is identical. My setup includes an MSI MPG B550 Gaming with Wi-Fi (bios updated), R7 5800X3D with Deepcool and AIO cooling, four Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200MHz RAM sticks, MSI Ventus 2080 Super, Western Digital 500GB NVMe SSD, a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVMe drive, and a Thermaltake Smart 700W PSU. Running at full load, the X3D stays cool—only a slight drop to 4100-4300MHz on the 3D VCache. Hwinfo64 shows some cores aren’t at full speed, but none are overheating. I haven’t touched the open loop yet; I’m waiting to see how it performs before making any changes.
The 5800x3d performs better than the 3700x, indicating an issue elsewhere. You may want to reinstall Premiere Pro and adjust the hardware acceleration settings, as Premiere tends to conflict with various hardware configurations.
Thanks for your responses. The only difference seems to be the processor, which I replaced with the 3700x as a backup. Everything is running smoothly as before. Initially, I was concerned about heat since I only have a 240AIO, but with just a 70°C temperature at full load and no throttling, it worked fine. I wondered if something unusual was happening—like a faulty processor or a bad setup. Another thought was that the issue might be related to bent pins, but after reinstalling Premiere and After Effects with older versions, everything functioned normally.
I haven't updated my BIOS or installed new chipset drivers yet.
It's unusual, but here are a couple of ideas: execute cinebench 23, share a summary of the outcomes (one per core for multi-core), download and install PBO2, adjust each core to -30 or -25, and rerun the tests. https://github.com/PrimeO7/How-to-underv.../README.md
