Hi everyone! I currently have:
- Core i7-7700k at 4.2 GHz
- 16 GB DDR4 RAM at 3000 MHz
If upgrading, I’d switch to:
- Ryzen 7 3700X
- 32 GB DDR4 RAM at 3600 MHz
Storage is another consideration—I might upgrade if it helps my workflow.
Other potential changes:
- Upgrade monitor from 1080p 144Hz to 1440p 144Hz
- Switch to Magni/Modi audio stack for better headphones
- Consider a new mouse, maybe Logitech PowerPlay or G903
What do you think? Any suggestions for moving forward?
I’d upgrade the memory until it runs low. What GPU do you own? You won’t be impressed in gaming. I’d hold off on the Ryzen 4000 since your setup is already solid now, but productivity 3700X dwarfs the 7700K. A monitor upgrade would be a good investment, though I’d suggest a 2060 Super or better for 1440p at 144hz. Top picks include 27GL850, VA27AQ, XF27HUA, PX7 Prime, and 27GL83A.
Budget is approximately 1000 USD. I’ll check a PCPartPicker list for my setup. The monitor wasn’t found there, so here’s the Amazon link you provided: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KO4...UTF8&psc=1. I also included a PCPartPicker part list with item details and prices.
Great rig setup. Aim for 3700x or higher and a solid X570 motherboard. Consider a solid DDR4 3600mhz RAM with a good clock speed. Upgrade the thread count a bit higher and focus on improving performance per clock.
You're right, I might still benefit from more RAM since 16 GB isn't sufficient lately. The rest of my system is still working well. Thanks for your advice—I'm thinking about whether upgrading was necessary or just a desire to improve performance. I'll likely use the funds elsewhere in my setup where they'd be more valuable.
