Hey there, I'm thinking about upgrading my RAM for gaming and 3D work. I have two choices: one with 32GB at 3200MHz CL16 with 2 modules, or another with 32GB at 3600MHz CL18 with 4 modules. The Ryzen 2700X and Aorus B450 Pro motherboard are still pending updates. Appreciate your help!
2 modules Because bandwidth is the same and you'll have room to expand in the future. And because 3200 cl 16 will perform pretty much the same as 3600 cl 18 in terms of latency. Edited July 8, 2020 by TofuHaroto
It depends on your needs. If you're building a system where fast memory access matters, the 3733MHz sweet spot can be important. For most everyday tasks, though, it might not be a major concern unless you're pushing performance limits.
It's closer to 3600 cl16 as the optimal setting. The ideal range for Zen 2 is 3600 cl16, but Cl18 will run a bit slower than 3600 cl16, while 3200 cl16 performs similarly.
