I know, it's a hard question and it depends on what I need. What I want and what I need: Zen 3 (around the specs/ price of a Ryzen 7 3800X or something), so only B550 or X570 are an option. Mainly gaming, maybe some little cinema 4d stuff, but not much. No overclocking, some rgb and an AIO NZXT Kraken X73. Also I want to go for pcie gen 4 for the future. GPU if this matters RTX 3070 or 3080, not sure yet. Important for me: At least 2x m.2 slots with one of them pcie 4. Also, the design somewhats matters to me when I spend so much money on a new pc, I don't want it to look like some garbage 50€ board like some msi's do. First my price range was up to 150-200€. Then I looked around and found out that I pretty much need a X570 for a good board. Is that correct? What are the differences to B550? I found the Asus Prime X570 Pro and I'am really happy with it. But unfortunately it's white and won't fit my system at all. So I thought a good alternative to stay with asus would be a Rog Strix X570 F or E. I don't really need WLAN, but the 2.5 Gigabit LAN and Bluetooth are something I could need sometimes and I heared that it has better power coverage (if thats what it's called in english) What do you think of this board? It's way ahead of my budget, and the more I research, the more I go up in price. 270€ is somewhat ok, but if thats overkill, I don't really want to spend that much. Thank you very much for your help.
The main distinction lies in how the lanes are handled: B550 supports Gen 4 lanes on the CPU while using 3.0 chipset lanes, whereas X570 provides full Gen 4 across the entire board. Unless you require those extra Gen 4 lanes, B550 performs just as well. Regarding placement, it’s best to wait for the Zen 3 release rather than purchasing now. You don’t require PCI 4.0 to operate anything right now (except for 4.0 SSDs). Adding the X570 would provide improved power delivery for CPUs over 105W, enhancing overclocking performance. I think Zen 3 will consume less power at the same number of cores, making a 3800x equivalent suitable for the B550.
