I purchased DDR5 4800mhz memory from Crucial's official site on January 13th. A day later, I received an email stating my order was out of stock with an estimated restock time of 7 to 10 days. After about 15 days, I contacted them again, asking about the status and they offered a 15% discount, which I appreciated. A week later, I inquired about the expected delivery date and received a reply saying the material would arrive on February 7th. To date, I haven't received any confirmation that the product has been shipped. My dilemma is whether to wait for the Crucial RAM at £51/$70 or buy an overpriced one from eBay for £95/$130. Given my tight budget, I’m trying to decide wisely without compromising on performance. Any advice would be invaluable.

Just go DDR4. No reason yet to spend the money on DDR5 in general.

Are you sure you require DDR5? A speed of 4800 MHz is impressive, which raises doubts about MB compatibility. EDIT: It seems the base speed for DDR5 is indeed 4800.

They claim the board is DDR4, but it's actually DDR5. This means they'd be competing with a more expensive DDR5 model. The naming system for motherboards and chipsets needs improvement, especially since similar names like "DDR4" and "DDR5" are used for different technologies. Why would gaming-focused boards share the same label?

Confirmed. I thought this would apply to a fresh board or build using the signature model DDR4...

I made changes. A DDR5 model exists with the same title. The branding and naming conventions have become quite confusing.

That's dumb, but I see the DDR5 version now as well. Regardless, OP doesn't need DDR5 I'm guessing lol..

Already purchased a DDR5 motherboard and have passed the return window. Because many are urging me to switch to DDR4, I’m sharing my latest update here:

The Gigabyte Z690 Gaming x (DDR5) works with DDR5 speeds going up to 5200MHz, and 4800MHz is the lowest available DDR5 rate.

It seemed the starting speed was quite fast. Don’t worry about it! If you manage to get the RAM kit, have fun!
