I'm purchasing the game today and facing a tough decision about which ship to select. I prefer the larger option but also need the capability for space combat. If I want the alternative later, can I acquire it without paying another $45? How long will my chosen ship remain usable? Also, I’m uncertain about the "Squadron 42" campaign—could you clarify what it entails? Thanks!
Squadron 42 is the solo adventure set within the Star Citizen world. It’s a great fit if you’ve played Chris Roberts before, as it serves as its spiritual successor to Wing Commander. The highlight is that you won’t need another $45 just for SQ42—just press the bright, welcoming button labeled “Fly Now” on the main screen to add it for $15 as a premium. When it comes to choosing your ship, you can switch it anytime once you’ve earned enough in-game money. I think you’ll be able to adjust your ship within roughly 20 hours of playing. If you want to help fund development, you can invest extra credits now to upgrade your ship, though this is only available during the Alpha phase (and possibly during beta as well—details pending).
Sure, in short, skipping the $45 ship with the squaDron package would mean paying an additional $45, which is why I’m considering the extra $15.
45$ is the standard bundle with any of the games. With the 45$ pack in Star Citizen, you can add a 15$ bonus to get both titles, though this extra cost must be bought via the Fly Now option for some mysterious reason. In the pledge store, you’ll also see a 2-pack of Star Citizen plus Squadron 42 for 60$ together.
