Hello fellow members, I've been considering selling my 8086k, Z390 Aorus Pro, and the 16GB of 2666MHz RAM. I'm thinking about switching to AMD because they have strong products now and I only spent $210 on the 8086k. Since the build isn't finished yet, I'm wondering if it would make sense to move to AMD. I'm currently gaming in 1080p at 144Hz and doing moderate editing with Sony Vegas.
everything is fresh, even though I realize I’ll struggle with memory and the motherboard. Using the 8086k prices for new items will help me earn money while keeping things balanced. I’m focusing on neutral choices—CSGO, GTA V, Terraria, BoO2, and Garry’s Mod aren’t too tough to run, but it’s the editing work that’s really demanding for me.
You're sure to earn some cash on the CPU... but not really. AMD offers decent features, though you probably don't need those extra cores, and it won't significantly boost your gaming speed. Just keep what you have. Why are you changing? You haven't explained much. Tenses, son.
It's not that much better than the 3700X or 3900X unless you actually need extra cores for editing. You'd save money and stick with the 8086K. Regarding games, CSGO leans slightly toward Intel, while GTA V has such poor optimization that CPU choice doesn't really matter (as long as it's not a cheap dual-core).
It's surprising how many games aren't well optimized. Sometimes it's not just the games themselves, but also how Windows uses its available processing power.
That CPU should work just fine for you. It has six cores and twelve threads with high clock speeds, which isn't a major problem. If you're aiming for better performance, you might consider something like the 3900X, which would make more sense. The 3700X/3800X models only add two more cores and four extra threads. The 3900X would double the cores but likely hurt gaming performance again. Eventually, we'll need more cores, but I'd suggest waiting another two to three years for that. None of the current games fully use the cores on my 2600X either, so upgrading doesn't seem necessary right now.
