some folks struggle to test products before ordering, since waiting three to six months in a box for new releases means you lose the return guarantee. even though you keep the warranty, handling it is more complicated than returning it in person. i’m also unsure about the pricing in the US store, as it automatically shows Canadian prices because my location is enabled.

Amazon and Best Buy prices vary depending on your location, even when using their US site. It's hard to judge if it's a good offer.

I understand your question about compatibility between new AMD CPUs and motherboards. It depends on the specific model of CPU and the latest motherboard offerings from AMD. Check the official AMD website or manufacturer specifications for the most accurate information.

Amd intends to maintain the am4 socket across several generations, suggesting it remains compatible. Newer boards may require a BIOS upgrade to back the latest CPUs.

PCIe 4.0 is a technology for faster data transfer, not a CPU feature itself. It can be built into the motherboard or used with certain expansion cards. Motherboards that support PCIe 4.0 include those from brands like ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and others that offer high-speed slots.

pcie 4.0 is the standard where your graphics card connects. nvme m.2 storage can also use it if it supports gen 4, which usually means higher speed. Most people don’t reach the full potential of pcie 3.0. I’m not aware of any gen 4 GPUs yet or those in development. There are many available gen 4 nvme drives. From what I know about CPUs, the latest ones support it, and I think the amd 4000 will too. Regarding motherboards, I haven’t seen x570 models with it; I’m not sure of other options beyond that. I don’t follow amd too closely.

For Intel, you’d typically need to replace the motherboard when upgrading CPUs. For AMD, future upgrades often depend more on socket compatibility and chipset support rather than just the motherboard itself.

intel just unveiled the lga1200 socket, which typically lasts for several chip generations. i anticipate it will remain available for a while longer. amd has been using the am4 socket for some time but has indicated they’ll keep supporting new chips on older boards—though the timeline is uncertain. personally, i prefer intel-based systems because of their reliability compared to amd options. check out these two recent videos for more insights.
