The upgrade isn't worth it. I recently switched from a 3700x to a 1700x at 1440p, and the change wasn’t as significant as I expected with a 5700xt. I’d stick with your existing CPU, wait for a Ryzen 4th generation model, then compare benchmarks against what you have now. No need to invest right now unless it won’t offer much improvement.
For gaming-only needs, this chip works great, even with a high-end 2070. The only improvement you'd get practically is faster clocks, which would need an unlocked Intel model. You won't surpass your existing CPU performance with an AMD option, especially for pure gaming.
Thanks to everyone who responded, I'm planning to wait for a 9700kf or 8700k and a Z390 board at a lower price while keeping an eye out in case Intel matches those speeds. Your help has been really valuable.
OP already possesses it, so it shouldn't cause any issues using it at this moment.
Looking for a 240mm or higher water cooler or a solid air cooler? No problem—I usually go with Noctua because they’re reliable. High-end tower coolers would also work well. I’m not familiar with every model, but you’ll likely find good options in the threads here.
