Which nation are you from? This works perfectly if you're in the US. PCPartPicker offers a list of items with pricing details. Motherboard ASRock B450M PRO4 is available for $64.98 on Amazon. Memory OLOy 16 GB DDR4-3000 CL16 costs $59.99 at Newegg. All prices cover shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts. Total comes to $324.96. This suggestion is also valid, though older i7 models remain costly because of their premium branding.

It seems like you're looking for an improvement. Your initial setup was meant to be cost-effective.

They already have DDR4 RAM installed, so purchasing another set doesn't make much sense.

The price seems reasonable for what it is. It’s likely not a major concern. PCPartPicker has provided the details for this component. The item includes a CPU and motherboard, with pricing and availability noted. Total cost reflects shipping, taxes, and discounts. Information was gathered on January 8, 2021.

I don't believe upgrading the motherboard is worthwhile unless absolutely required. It looks like my current model only works with Intel chips.

yes, but they are very expensive for some of them and being in that generation. but probably a jump in performance for you. while you could jump AMD to get more cores if minecraft likes extra cores, a newer board could give some newer features too. although it is not the newest board. so unless you find a cheap CPU upgrade/deal, you could do that and save money for a new GPU or wait more for an mostly full upgrade.

I think my processor already has two cores, which means I can still add more cores by choosing a stronger Intel CPU.

Because those i7 models are powerful enough, the total cost of the board plus the AMD 3600 upgrade is significant. The i7s themselves don’t offer better performance overall. Getting a weaker CPU with a cheaper board swap would not be worth it if you can find a much stronger one for similar price. For modern gaming, a quad-core processor isn’t enough for AAA titles, and some indie games are already demanding more. The older i7 6700/7700 handles AAA games just fine, while the 3600 supports everything without issues. If you plan to play more demanding games later or upgrade your GPU, the 3600 will handle it all, whereas any i5 board would fall short and the i7s would become obsolete quickly.

A switch to an AMD 3600 would be a substantial upgrade, offering better performance and efficiency compared to older components.
