Hey everyone, I’m planning to switch my Crosshair VI hero to a newer game mode. I intend to get a 3080 or similar GPU since prices are decent right now, and I think it makes sense to upgrade the rest of my setup too. The main challenge is picking the right motherboard. I was thinking about the Aorus B550 Master, but I’m worried the 3 M.2 slots might take up too much bandwidth from the main PCIe 4 x16 slot. In my area (Australia), there aren’t many options—most boards are either Aorus, Strix, or Mag. I’m not sure which one fits best, especially since X570 boards are nearly out of stock and only a few choices are available locally. My main priorities for the board are the internal storage capacity, because I already have a lot of USB devices and need plenty of space. Having just one USB 2 and one USB 3 connection has been a real hassle lately. I’d really appreciate any advice or links to retailers where I can find the right parts. Thanks in advance!
Avoid simply replacing your motherboard unless necessary. Spending on a new one won't make a difference unless you've purchased a model with insufficient M.2 NVMe slots. Stick with your current setup and plan to upgrade later when you need a CPU and RAM.
I recently upgraded my CPU to a 5800X3D. I’m thinking about completely rebuilding my setup to fit my wife’s older machine—she still has her 8+ year old xeon with an r9 390, which is clearly wearing thin. I plan to use that system for a home server or streaming PC in the living room. I’ll keep my current CPU, cooler, case, power supply, and storage from my old PC since I don’t intend to switch to AM5 anytime soon. This should last me a few years, and my wife will also appreciate the upgrade.
