When I purchased the 8700k, I considered upgrading to the 9700 for about $50 more. I chose the 8700k mainly because it felt just as capable and helped me save some cash. Its original specifications were solid, and at 4.8GHz with full-core turbo, it should handle most tasks smoothly—especially with a 1660 Ti. With that budget, you could upgrade the GPU instead of the CPU. This upgrade is mainly for gaming purposes. If you really need more processing power, a 9900k would be better. But you'd have to explain a specific use case where it's essential (like rendering or detailed 3D modeling) to justify the change.
Long before I received my 8700K, I noticed an i5 CPU was about 100 less powerful. That’s why I chose to upgrade to an 8th generation i7.
You picked an excellent CPU. Just keep in mind it’s not the main concern. There’s no need to invest much there. You’re close to having the top gaming chip available... For boosting FPS, a more powerful GPU is what you’ll need.

I’ve kept it overclocked since the start, and it’s maintained stability with no signs of wear after about 20 months at 5GHz. It might be an Intel 11th generation or a Ryzen 5th generation processor.
I've been monitoring the stock for a while now. I'm curious about overclocking it, but since it's not my only CPU and I haven't tested anything else, I'm hesitant. Unless I had a backup, I'd prefer not to try it just yet.
