I intended to purchase Dark Souls 2 during the Steam sale, but I learned about Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin and questioned if it was worth waiting.

It really depends on how much you want to play ds2 at the moment I think. I don't think its been said whether or not there will be a discount if you own ds2 already. Personally I'm not buying the dlc until we know if there will be a discount on the 'upgrade', and if not I'll probably wait until scholar is on sale before picking it up. That said if you really want to play it now and don't mind potentially paying a premium for the upgrade later, wait until its a flash sale or until jan 2. Doesn't really help since scholar of the first sin is a metro 'redux' like bundle for dark souls 2 due out in april...
