I tested my 4790k at stock voltage with auto voltage and achieved 26 idle. During the prime 95 stress test at full load, it reached an average of 60 degrees. Is this acceptable? Can I overclock the CPU later? Also, do you have a H100i GTX water cooler?

Actually I've heard 1.3 volts is about as high as you wanna go to keep it stable.
As far as temps, 80 degrees C is pretty much the max, and that's spiked. You don't want to run constantly that high. I would try to keep it 75C or below for a temp under constant load.
For the record, I know you don't want to break your CPU. No one here wants that either. We can only share our opinions based on experience and let you make your own decisions. If you don't feel comfortable messing with this stuff, I wouldn't do it. That being said, a 4.4GHz overclock is pretty common for your CPU. Many people have done it without damaging anything.

Your temperatures are in the right range. A CPU running at full capacity can handle around 60 degrees, and you can push it further by overclocking, allowing temperatures to rise another 10 to 15 degrees before overheating becomes a concern.

Your temperatures are in the right range. A CPU running at full load at 60 degrees is acceptable. You can safely overclock and push temperatures up another 10-15 degrees before problems arise. Are you confident about this? I don’t want to risk damaging it, and I won’t exceed 1.3 volts. What stable voltage would be best for a 4.4 GHz processor?

Hello,
In my view the temperature is a bit high for a water cooled stock i7 4790k but still nothing to worry about. Even my air cooled CPU reaches 55-60 degrees when under load. Could you have possibly applied too much thermal paste or installed the water cooling parts incorrectly? Maybe your radiator placement isn’t optimal, causing it to draw more hot air than it can dissipate? For overclocking, I suggest using 1.3V until stable at around 4.7Ghz – this should work well.
