I own a collection of IO Bit software on my Windows 10 machine that I've used for many years. I'm thinking about removing them all, as there are some concerns about IO Bit. I've received subscriptions before, but they often seem to end sooner than expected and keep showing ads to upgrade to newer versions, which is frustrating. I also believe they might be slightly affecting my system performance.
Software updater updates drivers? As Ralston mentioned, third-party driver updaters sometimes make mistakes and install incorrect drivers. You likely won’t need any of them. Most of their services are now built into Windows itself. I didn’t find any reviews for Smart Game Booster from anyone I could trust. Protected folders exist in Windows already; Defender prevents changes to certain files. Advanced System Care cleans the PC, and Windows Storage Sense performs a similar function. These kinds of tools are outdated—drivers are now primarily handled by manufacturers. This is why more companies are creating driver updaters, making it one of the remaining weaknesses. Stop wasting money on iobit... Amazing Norton hasn’t purchased them yet.
I'm trying to recall the last time I heard positive things about IObit, but my memory is completely blank.
I would remove all of them.
Windows Defender/Security covers most needs nowadays. It is included in the OS and free.
Consider having Malwarebytes ready for occasional extra checks if anything unusual arises.
Refrain from using third-party tools or utilities to install or upgrade software and drivers. Install them yourself so you maintain full control over downloads, installations, and settings.
Exceptions apply to known software you use regularly and trust.
Check Task Manager > Startup to see which apps are running—likely many that aren’t truly useful or helpful.
Make sure any new software meets your criteria and offers a clear, measurable advantage.
