I purchased the ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-E gaming Wi-Fi motherboard but I'm unsure which CPU fits best—AMD Ryzen 7 7700X or Ryzen 9 7900X. Also, I'm not sure if the Samsung 980 Pro SSD or 990 Pro SSD is the right choice for my needs. I require 500GB or 1TB for Windows, plus three 2TB drives for gaming and video editing, and I need it for both gaming and photo editing.
The 7900X offers more cores and threads, making it suitable for your media tasks. Is the extra $100 worth it compared to the 7700X? That decision depends on your needs, as gaming won’t significantly improve performance on this model.
There were also older AMD APUs similar to the A10-7700k, often appearing in eBay ads with i7 models. The AMD Polaris cards shared many specifications with Nvidia Fermi cards from several years prior. AMD has recently adopted some of the same identifiers for GPUs as they did a decade ago. This isn't meant to highlight any competitive rivalry between AMD and Intel over chipset naming conventions.
I anticipate better results with your AMD build than I experienced. My setup would likely require the 7900X and an SSD, especially if you're close to a Microcenter. I recommend the in-house SSDs as they offer similar speed to Samsung options and are more affordable. https://www.microcenter.com/product/6449...tate-drive For your gaming and storage needs, consider this alternative to using multiple 2TB drives. This is what I currently use for my gaming storage, though I have two units. https://www.microcenter.com/product/6247...tate-drive
