I currently own an i7 4790 stock and prefer not to overclock it. I have 16GB RAM and a 1060, which I’m planning to sell to upgrade for the 1660S or 1660Ti. The main decision is whether to replace my i7 4790 with an i5 8600K for smoother streaming and improved gaming performance. Some believe an i7 outperforms any i5 available, while others suggest the i5 9600K offers the best value for gaming. I haven’t heard much about it for streaming purposes. I’m leaning toward Intel CPUs since Ryzen is appealing for heavy tasks, but I’m very particular and prefer an Intel option. I’m also considering the i7 8700K or 9700K if they fit my budget, though I know their higher price reflects more cores. My goal is to upgrade within a $250 limit, aiming for at least three to five years of reliable use. Side note: I’ve owned this PC since 2014 and have upgraded it regularly.
I suggest the i5-8600K. 6 cores and 12 threads feel great... Much improved over a non-OC 4790. You could even allocate funds for the GTX 1660 Non S and Non Ti since it’s quite similar in clock speeds to the super and uses better silicon. For the Ti, let me know!
There are just six threads here. The 8600k feels terrible for current games.
8600K lacks hyperthreading support. Consider recommending a 3700X for the user.
It seems the design targets tasks similar to streaming, though I won’t limit myself to that. I’ll keep your suggestion in mind.
