Hello. I'm considering improving my ten-year-old setup. My main concern is whether it's wise to wait a few months before making any purchases. Will new GPUs, CPUs, or graphics cards be released soon to reduce the prices of what's currently available?

I'm not very familiar with the latest developments in components and haven't checked when new ones might be announced. I'm trying to recall what I used to know and stay updated.

Also, based on recent reports about issues with 13th and 14th generation Intel CPUs (as mentioned by Wendell and others), should I opt for the newest AMD CPUs instead?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

What to purchase is determined by your specific needs. If you keep holding out for the next major update, which will be a few months away, you'll never get it. However, with the Ryzen 9000 arriving at the end of the month, I think it's better to wait until those specifications are published. I would definitely steer clear of buying a 13th or 14th generation i9.

Thank you, logain. That's my understanding. I'll wait then.

Alternatively, 12th generation chips are available today. The performance boost compared to a ten-year-old system will be significant either way.

Yeah, I saw that. Quite a deal on good chips. I've thought of going that way too.

Based on my observation of price developments over the past few years the times of big erosions after big launches are over. The market is very much anticipating these things, and manufacturers have become good at adjusting their pricing of new gen depending on remaining stock levels of previous gen products.
What's your budget? If you're ready to pay for the next best thing you obviously need to wait until it's released. If you're going for value for money there's no reason to wait.
