Hey, I’ve noticed your PC has been acting up lately—slow performance and high CPU usage even in simple games. I also do a lot of graphics work and multitasking. You’re looking to upgrade but want to stay within a budget and avoid complicated BIOS changes or data risks. Right now your setup is: Intel i5-7600 @3.5GHz, GTX 1060 6GB, MSI Z270M, 16GB DDR4 at 3600MHz, SSD and hard drive. I’d suggest focusing on the CPU first since that’s where the bottleneck seems. Switching to Ryzen would give you more cores and better multitasking, but you’ll need a compatible motherboard. If you’re open to it, look for a board that supports Ryzen 5000 series or higher. You might also consider upgrading to an SSD for faster loading and better overall speed. Just make sure your power supply can handle the new components. Let me know if you want more details on specific models!
To upgrade to Ryzen, you'll need a motherboard that supports a Ryzen CPU (like AM4 or AM3). No other components need changing. Do you have one 16GB RAM stick or two 8GB sticks?
2x8gb, I didn’t expect it would make much of a difference. Could a Ryzen be a better upgrade for my Intel?
Ryzen 5 3600 + MSI B550 Pro VDH would be a good option now. However I would recommend waiting for Zen 3 near the end of the year
Thank you for the feedback. The benchmark shows minimal improvement compared to my current CPU. Comparing Ryzen 7 3700X offers only about 11% boost, while higher-end models like the 7th Gen Ryzen deliver around 7%. Regarding multi-core performance, additional cores and threads matter more for tasks that can utilize parallel processing, such as video editing or heavy computations. A 8-core CPU isn’t simply twice as fast as a 4-core one at the same clock speed; efficiency and workload distribution play a bigger role.
