Hey, you're looking to upgrade your old Dell L501x with an 130W PSU. The i5 480Q is compatible, but switching to an i7 740Q or 840Q would require checking compatibility and power limits. Your original PSU was 90W, so a 130W upgrade should work if the new CPUs meet the voltage and thermal requirements. Just confirm the cooling and power delivery before you go. Cheers Rick!
If that chip was available for that device, it would function properly. Typically, the motherboards remain consistent no matter the power supply wattage. Still, it will be an older mobile processor. Upgrading might offer limited improvement. Choose it if you're just testing the waters, but for regular use, a newer used laptop seems more practical.
90w model was available, but 130w was intended for the i7 line then. The motherboard supports 130w as well, I also got a 180w unit but it doesn’t read the ID correctly, so the BIOS won’t charge it and the 130w works fine.
