I understand your concerns about the motherboard compatibility. The board you have is compatible with I9-9900 non-K models. You might consider getting a K version later if needed for upgrades. Regarding I9-10900 and newer, it’s likely not supported by this board.

It could fail because of BIOS restrictions or the 9900K might not improve performance over a 9900K since it has a higher TDP and the motherboard can't supply enough power. The connectors are also incompatible.

Even with the 9900k running, it's unlikely a basic motherboard can handle the VRM needed for overclocking. It's safer to stick with a standard 9900 model.

I wouldn't rely on the power delivery in that motherboard for performance beyond its standard capabilities. Not a good idea.

It seems to be a budget HP Omen desktop with an i7-8700 processor. The motherboard might not support high stock boost frequencies under heavy loads. Updated July 29, 2021 by Fasauceome

I wouldn't exceed 65 watts on that motherboard; the 9900k typically draws 135-140 watts in stock.
