Currently system: MOBO: Asus Sabertooth FX990, CPU: AMD FX8370, RAM: Corsair DDR3-2133 32GB (4x8). Upgrade suggestion: Switch to Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming, AMD AM4 Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 and 3rd Gen Ryzen ATX, plus a new 8-core processor. RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8). Cooler: Corsair Wraith Prism LED. Upgrade plan: Increase RAM to 32GB and consider a 3D printer in four months. What approach would your fellow forum users take?

Usually you'd always reinstall Windows instead of hoping the OS would function with a full hardware swap. You might attempt to use the same installation, but don't expect smooth performance.

Usually, it's best to reinstall Windows. The machine you're planning is quite powerful for Wow and movies, so a more affordable B550 board with a Ryzen 5 3600 and 3200C16 RAM would suffice and save you money.

Don't stress, just install the same SSD, no issues. That problem used to be a big deal because the software didn't automatically adapt to new hardware, but that's been fixed a long time ago. After restarting your new system, it might take some time for Windows to update its services and settings to match your hardware.

Thanks for your response. That aligns with my idea. Perhaps reinstalling the OS would let me handle the rest of the software through a restore from a backup. What do you think? Would a restore actually work? I believe backups and restores are effective only when the entire hard drive is handled.

It doesn't necessarily mean the problem is fixed just because it works now. Moving the same disk between setups often causes conflicts, so a fresh installation remains a smarter choice.
