I’d stick to 6c/12t, but if you need Intel, go for the 10th gen Core i5 (like 10500, 10600, 10600K).

I’d prefer to pause and see what Zen 3 brings, plus how challenging the experience will be. Generally, I’d skip Coffee Lake if it’s not worth it. Edited August 6, 2020 by TofuHaroto

I’d prefer the 10700k model, especially with 30+ performance close to maximum settings.

Acknowledge the point about brand bias being a weak mindset. Suggest evaluating today's offerings based on current evidence rather than outdated opinions. Remind him to focus on up-to-date intel and ensure adequate cooling performance.

Now I understand it's best to hold off until Christmas for the i7-10700k then. Appreciate all the feedback!

I understand, however in the scenario of xplane: it was built using Intel, making Intel the preferable option when you're limited to using it on xplane.

By that point, Zen 3 is likely to be discontinued, so verify it.

You're considering upgrading your setup by swapping in a newer processor and getting better components locally. It sounds like you're planning for future upgrades and taking advantage of more affordable options at a local Micro Center.

The 10600K performs well in gaming too, and it seems most AAA titles can handle it smoothly with just 12 threads running at a time.
