I've encountered issues with a PCIe expansion card I installed on my PC. I'm thinking about updating the BIOS on my MSI B450 Tomahawk, but since I'm using a Ryzen 5 3600 and haven't checked the latest Ryzen 5000 BIOS updates, I'm unsure if the new BIOS would affect my CPU support.

The usual drops affect the 2000 series APUs and Althon chips. If you're having issues with your PCIe card and suspect a BIOS update could assist, let me know what specific problems you're facing.

I installed a USB 3 x4 card but only two of the four connections are functioning. Adjusting the PCIe lane configuration in the BIOS to 4x4 didn’t help. Also, using an NVMe M.2 drive doesn’t seem relevant right now.

I have an x16 slot near my GPU that I’m considering. I’m cautious because it’s close to my larger GPU and I’m worried about arcing between them. I plan to check if it fits properly. Do you have any guidance on installing a USB card? I’m not entirely sure I set up the PCIe correctly.

Unless it makes direct contact, there shouldn’t be an issue. If it mainly obstructs your GPU cooler’s air intake, it won’t damage your GPU unless you keep doing that for a while. Running it for just 10 minutes won’t resolve the problem. Regarding PCIe configuration, it’s essentially just a loose connection in the slot and functions fine. If it fails in another slot, consider reaching out to the card maker for guidance.
