The power supply is a standard PSU, not a specific brand or model.

I mean I don't think so, but I'm biased lol. Really they are all quite compelling and there's no real downside to any of them, except the 10850k will need much more robust cooling and a better motherboard. Since you're near a Microcenter (i hate you btw) I would go with the discounted Intel chips over the Ryzen 5000. The standout here is still the i5-10600k for under $200. It's better in every conceivable way than the Ryzen 5 3500x, except for PCIE4 support. You'll need a new motherboard anyway, they are LGA1200. I recommend a B560 if you get a locked chip, or a lower end Z490 if you get the i5-10600k/i7-10700k.

You're considering an i9 processor priced at $315, but you're unsure if your current motherboard will work. You're hoping to stay with the same board even though upgrading might be unavoidable.

They need to get a newer system since the board only works with 6th and 7th generation processors

I don’t have personal preferences, but you might want a mid-range motherboard like the ASUS TUF Gaming or MSI MEG for your upcoming build at Microcenter.

I suggest considering the B560 and i5-10400, i5-11400, i7-10700, or i7-11700 options. These boards support XMP memory speeds even with a fixed processor. The i5-11400 offers solid performance for its cost. A good fit would be the i5-1600k/i7-10700k paired with a decent Z490.
