I need to upgrade my setup. Right now I use an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G with eight threads, which limits how many simulations I can run at once and how long they take. A normal simulation uses about two-thirds of those threads. I want a budget-friendly upgrade that still gives good performance, but I need value for money. My current hardware is fixed by the motherboard and power constraints. The Ryzen 5 5600 seems like a solid choice—it would cost around £120 new or £95 used with a two-year warranty. Any recommendations?

It seems you're looking for affordable options on the FB marketplace. Warranty isn't usually important for CPUs, since they rarely fail under normal use. You might find good deals on used models like the 5700/5800x or even the 5900x.

For optimal performance per dollar, the 5700X offers strong value. A solid choice is the used Ryzen 9 3900X, which pairs well with your 550-watt power supply.

You can find the 5700X or 5700G for around £150, which could be a good deal for the extra threads. A 3900/3900X would offer more threads, but I’m not sure if speed is important for your use case.

No information available on throttling effects from a wraith stealth cooler for a 5700X.

A 5700 or above model will struggle with a stealth cooler, though you can upgrade to a superior one later.

Wouldn't it be easier to use a thermalright PA120 or a thermalright assassin spirit?

Obtaining a cooler would reduce the perceived worth of the 5700X option.

A refurbished wraith spire would be quite affordable.

It would weigh around 10 pounds, but I’d put 35 pounds into the PA120 or 20 into an assassin spirit.
