It's a basic setup with an I5-6500, currently running 4c/4t. You're thinking of moving to 4c/8t or higher, likely using a used machine. Your main tasks are LightRoom and PhotoShop, so you probably want a solid CPU upgrade for better performance.

I dont think you will get a better new CPU at that price, the one you have costs $235 on Amazon, but if you can find a used 7700K or something at that price I see no reason to not get it.

Only one option exists clearly. 7700 support is available with F20 bios. However, I don’t believe the power output meets the requirements.
