What impact will the upgrade from MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC to ASUS ROG Strix B450-I have on my build? Or should I keep saving for the ASUS ROG Strix X570-I when I move to a 3700 series later? I’m adjusting my choices as I see fit. My case is SilverStone Precision PS15 TG mATX, currently paired with 2600 and 1080ti. That setup seems relevant.

These are ITX boards, not mATX.

Would your original board work in that situation? If not, which ones do you think would be a good fit?

Your MSI board is ATX. If you're moving to an mATX case, choose an mATX board. Otherwise, you might be overpaying for an ITX version, missing out on better expansion options, or possibly experiencing poorer cooling and VRM performance.

Avoid selecting an ITX motherboard unless your build features a compact case. I’m sticking with ITX and prefer not to use fan headers for cooling. Still, the B450-I Asus Rog Strix offers solid performance and quality, though adding more fans might create some challenges.

There aren't many mATX boards available, isn't it? The Coolermaster NR400 is a solid option. It resembles the PS15 but provides more space for a 240mm radiator. The PS15 wouldn't fit it at all. Since you're looking back on your setup, your options are limited. The case serves just as a sealed container; you don't need to invest heavily unless it ensures good airflow. If I were you, I'd upgrade the case and look for a compatible motherboard. MOBAs are designed to last, unlike cases which can be swapped out. So save on the case investment.

My situation is more expensive and larger than what I’m aiming for. I don’t intend to add water cooling and am hoping for a more compact PC instead—my current setup is a massive beast (Cougar Panzer Dual TG Mid Tower Case). I might have to wait and check if they release any new motherboard options later.

You're right about the fan headers, I didn't realize that before. That's frustrating.
