Hello everyone, my 5-year-old PC is beginning to slow down in certain games, often showing a CPU bottleneck. I currently have an i5-6500 and the part list is available if you're interested: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YZJKNN. The biggest improvement without changing the motherboard would be upgrading to an i7-7700k, which is still priced above 200 euros locally. My thought is whether it makes sense to look for a used one, or if the effort isn't worth it—switching the CPU and RAM might be a better option. Since I prioritize performance for the money, I'm open to spending more if it really helps. Thanks.

Based on the prices of used 7700Ks, it seems more advantageous to swap your existing items for models like the 5600 and B550.

It’s unlikely the CPU is worth handling. The 7700 remains a four-core unit with only minor IPC gains, making it essentially the same as your current setup. The marginally faster clocks and hyperthreading offer only a slight edge, not enough to justify the cost. As with older Intel systems, many buyers overpay for top-tier chips. For better value, consider a 12400f or 5600 (whichever is more affordable locally) paired with a budget board—especially on the AMD side, which often handles lower-end hardware better. Your RAM upgrade will likely be needed soon. The processor should still function, though older 2133/2400 configurations might impose some limitations.

New. The costs for 6700 and 7700 are unreasonable. Choose a ddr4 board and reuse the RAM. If it's under 2666mhz speeds, you can use it now but consider swapping it out. A 200€ purchase provides nearly a Ryzen 5600 and a decent B550 board.
