Hi, I remember purchasing my first PC a few years back with those specifications: ASUS X99 Deluxe, an i7 5820K processor, 8GB RAM, a 250GB SSD, and an EVGA GeForce 970 graphics card. I’m not very familiar with computer configurations, but I think the motherboard is quite old and has limited compatibility for newer processors. Should I upgrade the CPU to what I can afford, or is it better to sell everything and start fresh with a more modern build? Thanks!

What are you aiming to achieve with the system that isn't meeting your expectations?

Additionally, the Intel Xeons (v4) slots available on the motherboard often sell for around $1000 on eBay, making it possible to purchase a complete new setup.

I'm a 3D motion graphics artist and graphic designer. I wasn't fully happy with the performance—it was just okay. I thought it was time to make some improvements. After researching, I noticed the motherboard was quite outdated. For instance, AMD is now a better choice, and my main board doesn't even work with the latest i7 processors. I wondered if upgrading my graphics card would help, especially since a slow processor might slow everything down. But I wasn't sure if that was really the problem.

The GFX card situation is chaotic right now, with prices skyrocketing and the market unstable. It’s not a good time to purchase a new card. Consider holding off until things stabilize in the summer.

You're wondering if improving your card will boost your performance now. You're also considering boosting your RAM to see if it makes a difference, without jumping into a full last-gen upgrade.

I just purchased an AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100 for around $300. It looks great with 8GB of built-in RAM and would be a solid upgrade from your previous model. I’d boost my RAM to the maximum, but it’s important to check the system requirements of the software you use first, before investing more.

What doesn't help is that upgrading one thing, say cpu, would mean motherboard and increased power could mean psu, and if you were any older, ram to ddr4 from 3. Ryzen are good because of the cores and price to performance. They sound like a good picke, but yea GPU and CPU prices are off the charts. The best bet is wait for a 5600 non x, unless you want the higher clock speeds. Ram could be an upgrade to 16gb. If you go ryzen, then get 3200 mhz ram. Ryzen loves fast memory. The gpu issue is that any and all are sold out, or are marked up. Nvidia 3000 is out of the question rn. Yea a radeon would be the best bet.

You're keeping the mainboard and only upgrading parts if possible, leaving the CPU unchanged. That sounds like a balanced approach.
