You can turn off all tracking features. This will remove capabilities such as Cortana. Watch a demonstration here.
When Cortana is in use, it records every keystroke and transmits a portion to Microsoft. Data from MS services like Outlook or One Drive is examined and shared with Microsoft, who asserts a legal obligation to assist authorities in cases of illegal activity. Although some telemetry features can be turned off, Windows 10 still sends certain information to MS servers. Microsoft maintains it handles data anonymously, but this is often misleading. In reality, each Windows setup has a unique anonymous ID linked to a specific device, making true anonymity impossible. Technicians may eventually trace the source once they need it, revealing the ID and connecting it to a real machine. Personally, I consider Microsoft’s stance on accessing personal data deeply inappropriate and hope legal action prompts them to act responsibly.
They don’t monitor your activities. How can they provide the information you’re seeking without receiving the data they require? They only gather anonymous telemetry details.
This practice isn't about secretly watching individuals; law enforcement often requires developers to embed hidden features in their software so they can access and observe people when necessary. The same principle applies to Android and Apple systems. Microsoft's data gathering serves as another method for surveillance, alongside its other functions. Whether someone is specifically targeted isn't the issue—collecting and analyzing personal information inherently constitutes spying, regardless of intent.
Each setup gets a hidden user ID tied to its installation, meaning it’s not fully anonymous. Labeling it as anonymous is a PR move.
Be careful—upgrade is required before proceeding with a clean install.
