I've gathered some components I have on hand to set up a Minecraft server for myself and a few friends. The CPU I found is a Pentium G3258, which isn't ideal for high-end gaming but should work for casual play. Some are curious about boosting its performance—would it really help or just consume extra energy?

Typically people avoid increasing server speed because the goal is a reliable system.

It's a minor variation... My E8400 supports 5 players on 1.14.4 spigot with render distance at 10 chunks. Just ensure no simultaneous flying in opposite directions (chunk processing) causes huge TNT explosions. Aim for 6-8 GB RAM and an SSD with DRAM cache—those are also required. Don't stress, your CPU is more than sufficient and overclocking isn't necessary.

I wouldn't increase a server's speed that way because it would be risky to lose access if something fails. I've tested a Raspberry Pi 1 running a server, but it performed poorly and was unstable. With around three of those, you should be fine.

It's usually safe 99% of the time to avoid overclocking. A reliable, slower setup is preferable to a shaky, quicker one.
