I've been using an ASUS H110M-e/m.2 since 2017 without updating the BIOS before. There are newer versions available, but I haven't changed any hardware components yet. I'm still using the same system since then and don't intend to modify it soon. I'm curious if upgrading the BIOS could cause any issues, especially since my current specs (1050 Ti and i5 7400) might not be fully supported by newer versions. I was wondering if it's safe to proceed, thanks for your help!
Updates to BIOS are now less dangerous, but I wouldn't install them unless you're experiencing problems.
Review the BIOS information; if not necessary, it may not be required. Updating BIOS can still cause system failure, though updating might be straightforward in some cases. Be aware there is a risk involved. For drivers, you might attempt an update.
Keeping software up to date is one thing, but keeping a BIOS up to date is another. In general there's usually no need to update your BIOS unless you have a specific reason, such as supporting a newer CPU. If everything you have is running fine then I'd just leave it as-is.
Some people mention that MEUpdateTool has found a security problem that might endanger your platform. Use the ME Update tool to refresh your system. We recommend updating the ME Driver to version 11.7.0.1040 at the same time as other recent updates. The previous update noted: improve system stability and security. The latest update advises: upgrade to new ME and Microcode versions.
I see, I didn't realize there were any problems at first, but I'm not sure what to check for. My main concern is whether it could boost performance, especially since I have a budget PC. A faulty motherboard could really hurt gaming performance. Thanks for your help!
I understand your concern. It might help to explore ways that could boost your PC's performance, as some people argue against updates. Regarding your case question, it depends on whether you kept the front fan or moved it to the back. Let me know if you need more details!
Not sure about those tools. As you can see, there are different BIOS versions for stability and security. It looks like an upgrade to the latest BIOS might be possible unless you need a specific update before the newest release. If your BIOS is older than "2017/11/22" or lower than version 3602, you might gain some advantages from upgrading. If you don’t mind those updates, go ahead. Keep in mind, changing the BIOS can be challenging if you’re not familiar with it. You probably won’t see improved performance, though it could make your experience smoother if you had problems. Otherwise, the issue might lie with the hardware rather than the updates. (Unless you prefer using software tools that aid gaming and maintain good system temperatures, such as FSR or NIS by AMD and Nvidia)
