Consider updating to Linux for your laptop via PopOS.
You have a gaming laptop that you still enjoy playing games on, but you're tired of the frequent problems with Windows and its integrated services. You're technically savvy enough to handle terminal commands, yet you're looking for an alternative like PopOS. It makes sense to explore such options if you want a smoother experience.
I'll set it up in a VM to see how it works, that makes sense. I believe it would be better to try it before committing.
This setup is quite typical for modern laptops, especially with hybrid graphics designs. PopOS stands out because it supports both hybrid graphics and direct access to your NVIDIA GPU via Steam Launch options.
It varies, doesn't it? And more importantly, what outcome are you aiming for? In the worst scenario—should you later wish to backtrack—you can simply download and reinstall Windows again, minimizing potential losses.
You're right, I'm thinking about playing games more often, maybe daily, and enjoying videos too.
Enable dual booting without jumping in right away. Also, I’d prefer an Arch-based system since Steam OS for the Steam Deck is built on Arch, which means more apps can target that platform instead of Debian. While Arch isn’t as intuitive as Debian, for a gaming rig I’d expect better Arch support than Debian support.
