Right now I’m focused on maintaining a steady 165Hz, so I’m curious if adding another thread with the i7 upgrade would make a difference. I’m not keen on overspending beyond what I need.
It depends on the condition of the 3770k used; it's unlikely to exceed $100. Past a certain threshold, I've noticed the R5 2600 available as low as $100, and a RAM/CPU combo easily comes under $400.
I wouldn't recommend either the 3770K or 3100 for you. Since Overwatch is quite demanding on the CPU, it's better to invest a bit more and choose something like the 3600.
