Hi, I was thinking about replacing my laptop. Here’s what I have and what I’m considering. Current setup: Lenovo Think Centre T430 Core i7-3720qm 2.6GHz (3.6GHz TB) with 45W TDP, 16GB DDR3L, 1600MHZ, 180GB SSD, 2.5" optical bay, Intel HD4000 iGPU, 1366x768 display. Planned replacement: Dell Latitude 7450 Core i7-5600u 2.6GHz (3.2GHz TB) with 15W TDP, 16GB DDR3L, 512GB M.2 SSD, Intel HD 5500, NVIDIA 840M, 14" display, 1080p. I plan to use it mainly for Adobe Premiere, Illustrator, and Photoshop, mostly exporting H264 1080p. My source videos are also in 1080p. I’ll be using it mostly for editing, so I should upgrade if needed. Prices in Pakistan are high, so I won’t be buying anything fancy. 5th and 6th generation models are the best I can afford. Best, Saud Khalid
Consider getting a decent desktop if you want to enjoy gaming. I understand you like laptops because of power issues, but on the screen you won’t realize what gaming is all about. Trust me, I’ve tried the games on that setup and now I wish I’d spent my time elsewhere. Still, I have a 900p monitor that I could upgrade to, but it’s still much better than what you’re using... buy a real PC!
It's not a good deal. Since it doesn't belong to the same class, you won't receive any boosts—just a decline. The older model has 4 cores and 8 threads, while the new one is just 2 cores. The previous one is a high-performance CPU, but the newer one is an ultra-efficient unit, which doesn't warrant the i7 label; i5 seems more fitting.
