It doesn’t matter much. Use a microfiber cloth or paper towel, add a little alcohol or dampen it slightly, and attempt to wipe it away. It should usually come off easily.

It's okay to get scratched while handling the die; protecting it is part of the IHS tasks. I have an Athlon 64 with a chipped die on three sides that still works fine (it did 15 years ago), and another one that has only a minor scratch on the silicon.
