An OEM license restricts your ability to modify the motherboard, so a retail license is strongly advised.

I used an OEM Windows 8 version, upgraded to 10. A few weeks later I upgraded my system and noticed Windows needed reactivation. Microsoft support clarified that some components had been altered, mentioning the parts were faulty and required replacement. Now I’ve reactivated it.
