I had a vision... of using all AAA titles on my older MacBookPro... the dream felt more believable when the connection was strong and delays were manageable... but most of the time I faced frustrating lags with GeForce Now... still, it’s reassuring to know your setup is decent, and Nvidia servers are nearby... I’ll take that as a positive, but can you handle the game you want (or something competitive)? I gave up on the laptop and went for a desktop. A price range of $120–240 for a 1080p@60-4k@120 gaming rig sounds appealing, and with the freedom to play anywhere at any quality you like, it seems like a solid investment. What upgrades are necessary? Grab what you need right away and consider selling or reusing parts when they no longer suit your needs. Unless you’re an absolute fan of cutting-edge hardware who wants top performance at maximum settings – chances are you won’t require any component changes. By the time your CPU becomes outdated, it’s usually better to swap the entire CPU-MOBO-RAM setup. Storage? You can always rely on an external NAS for all your large files.

I believe it hinges on the internet speed, since some reviews highlight the amazing low latency of GeForce Now. Personally, I don’t feel confident playing from Cloud Edit either. Still, if it doesn’t perform well right now, I can simply keep improving my desktop setup. In the long run, a desktop offers more flexibility for upgrades compared to a laptop. For example, with my 2019 rig, I’ve gradually upgraded components over time. If I needed to upgrade the GPU, I could do that on a desktop, not a laptop.

It’s unclear if it truly offers you convenience or if you’re doing it because it’s easy or appealing. An 'upgrade bug' can feel like a wasteful expense, yet it’s a real issue that drains money. It seems like a way to play games more easily without dealing with hardware hassles. Would you be okay sharing what upgrades you’ve made and how you feel about them?

Due to the small game library, low stock and inconsistent performance, any modding is impossible. People often mention lag, dependence on big companies, and unpredictable experiences. It’s not the best setup, but if you stick to mainstream titles and ignore latency issues, it could work. Consoles still have an edge for online play, with more players and generally smoother experiences. PC gaming feels fragmented, mostly focused on popular games, and performance often falls short—especially with high-res settings or stable 60fps. Once you adapt, switching back is tough because consoles are so slow and hard to turn off.

Modding offers the strongest experience for PC players. What makes people keep playing Skyrim and why Bethesda keeps updating it four times since 2011? Without mods, the game would have faded away within a couple of years, just like most other games without ongoing support.

I will never rely on a streaming platform for gaming.

I upgrade only when it genuinely benefits me, not just for fun. Most items are external—like chairs, speakers, monitors—to make my work more comfortable. Internally, I focused on RAM, storage, and CPU. I was considering the 4070 Ti but discovered a service, which made me rethink (this started the thread). In fact, with a solid connection, it’s not as problematic as it seems.

Well, it does have its place. I tend to spend the money on assembling a PC. If I commit to the service enough, I’m confident I can afford even a top-tier gaming laptop. Why? Because owning the components myself would be better, and I wouldn’t depend on the internet for games. In my country, internet is either costly and slow or extremely pricey but still decent. But even with fast and affordable connections, I’d still choose to build a PC or get a laptop.

Even under perfect conditions it is not the same experience. The video is compressed, latency is much higher, possibility of going down, adding to data cap usage (Xfinity is 1.2TB/mo), etc. What isn't all that bad is using Nvidia Gamestream to use the same computer anywhere in the house over a good, wired network.
