Hello, forum members. I'm looking to upgrade my PC for video rendering and was considering a 3950x build, thinking it would be better than the 9900K for that purpose. However, I've heard rumors about the upcoming Intel 10th Gen chips. Should I hold off and wait for that technology, or go ahead with the 3950x now?

Based on the reports, the 10th gen i9 is expected to be available in 10C/20T models, while the 3950X will offer 16C/32T options. Unless you're limited to using Adobe Suite, the Ryzen appears to be the better option compared to the 3950X.

I work with After Effects, Photoshop, and Sony Vegas for rendering. I also include gaming in my workflow.

Don't hold your breath for Intel 10th generation. Go for Ryzen 5 if you're looking ahead. The 10th gen Intel will fall short compared to Ryzen 5th generation. It still uses PCI-E 3, DDR4 versus PCI-E 5 and DDR5 for Ryzen. According to the info... the 3950x shines only over the 9900k in tasks that really need many cores. They match up pretty well in games. If you need reliability or budget matters, choose the 9900k—it's significantly more affordable.
