Hi, your new MSI Z790 board already has the necessary heatsinks for SSDs. You can keep the existing heatsink or swap it with the one from the motherboard if you prefer. The performance difference should be minimal since you've already applied a heatsink. If you add another SSD later, using the motherboard's heatsinks would likely be better. There’s no clear option to reapply thermal pads after removal, but you can always replace them when you decide to upgrade. For more storage, consider checking other options like NVMe drives or upgrading your current setup.

you must have designed it that way from the start

It seems uncertain about its technical accuracy. It’s likely safe to avoid it, though it may not meet specifications because of thermal throttling.

You haven't used the "shield" feature of your NVMe drive before. It's not needed and operates within typical temperatures. Think of it more like a heat barrier rather than a protective shield. It's meant to manage heat, not act as a knight-like defense.

Wow, that's quite concerning—this has been happening for six years now. I was even thinking about adding a thicker heatsink to my server since it clearly isn’t cooling effectively. It’s clear they should focus on improving the design with proper fin placement.

I believe their SSD will stay cooler compared to the RAM, since the RAM doesn’t require heatsinks.

Could you clarify what you mean by "it"? Are you asking about removing something that might be a tape?

there's a newer video iirc, the situation didn't change at all, the heat "trap" that came with my mobo looks still exactly the same too... As long your case has good airflow that just shouldn't be necessary and if it doesn't this "shield" is still questionable at best (cause where does the heat go anyways) That said im a big fan (lol) of my 7200 wdblack "server grade" external hard drive that actually comes with a fan! (and operates far outside of none server grade hard-drive temps, with the benefit its hella fast plus you can barely hear the fan thankfully)
