Consider switching to i9-9900K for better performance
I recently made an impulsive buy of the i9-9900K but intend to upgrade to an RTX 3080. My question is whether spending 380€ on this upgrade is worthwhile, especially since it doesn<|pad|>'s version supports PCIe 4.0 and my Zen 3 is still on the way. An AMD switch would cost around 800€, which is double what I’m spending now, and my SSDs aren’t PCIe 4.0 either. I searched forums but found no clear explanation of the benefits or reasons for upgrading. Benchmarks suggest only a small 9% gain at best. What do you think? Would you advise me? I’m already considering selling the i7-8700K for 220€, but it seems like few people are interested in Germany. Thanks for your feedback.
An upgrade to AMD could be 800 because newer models like the 4700 are likely to outperform older ones such as the 9900K and might offer similar value at around 300€ plus a small fee. For serious gaming, the 8700K remains a solid choice. A 220 for an 8700K feels quite high, and there are Ryzen processors from the latest generation that match its performance at a comparable price.
It's unlikely to significantly impact results since the benchmark slides used a 10900K
Yeah nothing on Intel has PCIe 4 right now don't do it. Wait for Ryzen 4000, or if you really wanna upgrade now get Ryzen 3000.
Only if you're into gaming, otherwise skip it. Is your 8700k boosted?
They weren't specified clearly; the notes only mention i9 without naming a model. It might fall anywhere between the i9 9900K and i9 10980XE. The difference in PCIe 4.0 performance isn't significant here.
It's common knowledge that the AMD 3950X outperforms any Intel i9 when rendering at 4K resolution.
